Our Association

The Olof and Katharina Svensson Family Association was founded in 1997. According to the charter, the association aims to preserve the memory of Olof and Katharina and their family, and to promote unity among their descendants. The association conducts genealogical research and keeps an archive of information on the family and arranges reunions and other gatherings, and excursions for the family.  Read more about our activities here.

Membership

The association’s activities are open to all interested parties within the family. Direct descendants of Olof and Katharina can become full members of the association and anyone can become a supporting member by paying the membership fee (20 Euros as of 2012). The association’s activities are primarily financed through membership fees. You can become a member here.

Administration

Decisions regarding the association’s guidelines and use of resources are made during the Annual General Meeting. The running activities of the association are handled by the board.  The members serve a mandate period of three years and the board currently consists of five members. Clans

Since there are hundreds of family members, they have been divided into “clans”, consisting of descendants of the children of Olof and Katharina. Currently there are six clans active within the family association: Svante, Mathilda, Thyra, Alfred, Alma and Carl. Each clan has a head of clan whose task is to function as a link between their own branch of the family and the rest of the association, especially in maintaining the family register. In addition to the six active clans, there are a further three potential clans.  The family has had contact with Anna’s clan in the USA in previous years, and the association would be pleased to receive further details regarding Ida (USA) and Nils (sea captain). Altogether Olof and Katharina had 11 children, out of whom one (Herman) died as a child and one remained unmarried (Erika).
